Apple Blueberry Antioxidants Smoothie Gets Rid of Free Radicals

Studies have shown blueberries to be one the foods with the richest sources of antioxidants out there and if you have eaten apples and blueberries before, you will know that this smoothie will be nice, delicious and healthy for you. The health benefits of blueberries are many and likewise with apples which is very rich in vitamin C.

Ingredients:
2 apples, washed and chopped
1 cup of blueberries
1 cup of vegan yogurt

Equipments needed:
Blender and a glass container

Method:
Combine all ingredients in your blender and blend them until a nice smooth consistency is formed.
Pour smoothie into container and drink or serve.

Drinking Routine
Drink this smoothie whenever you are stressed or feeling down. Drink it thrice weekly or even more when lots of antioxidants are needed in your body.

What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants are chemicals that prevent cell damage and help to slow down the aging process. They are naturally occurring antioxidants and manmade antioxidants. Natural antioxidants are mainly found in fruits and vegetables. Out of many, the most known antioxidants are vitamin A, C and E, Lycopene and beta-carotene.

How do antioxidants prevent cell damage and slow down the aging process?
Antioxidants are very stable, hence; they are able to neutralize free radicals in our bodies by delivering an electron to them. This process stops the rampaging of free radicals in our bodies. The most common type of free radical in our bodies is called oxygen free radical (unstable oxygen).

What are free radicals?
Free radicals are atoms or group of atoms (molecule) in our bodies with unpaired electrons that causes them to be unstable. When the atom is stable, the outer-shell is full and this causes it to stay away from chemical reactions, but when the outer-shell is lacking an electron, it becomes unstable and will therefore engage in chemical reactions. They are known to cause DNA and cellular damage in our bodies, which leads to many diseases and causes one to age quickly.

How free radicals form in the body?
Free radicals form when an atom or molecule loses one of its electrons and becomes unstable. This causes the atom or molecule to become chemically reactive. It will now go in search to steal an electron from a nearby molecule to stabilize itself and the molecule that loses one of its electrons by the thief, then go in search to steal back one and the process continues if antioxidants do not intervene.
